I have been using this since August 19th and the proof is just undeniable.

This plugin builds backlinks automatically and continually and Google loves it!

I have 15 first page keywords on a new website with only 20 pages of content. Lots of case study proof farther below.

1) You pay to use the plugin and install it in wordpress.
2) For every link you allow shown on your site you get to have a link displayed.
3) The links are not permanent. So they only count if Google crawls the site while the link is displayed.
4) So out of 1000  displays you might get 10 links. But it generates them non stop every day so they add up.
5) The links vary from pr0 – pr4. mostly pr0 and PR1. But the quantity make up for the lack of high pr. This is Good. Looks naturl.
6) You can choose the niche for the link but it is hit or miss. Some directly related most not. THIS IS GOOD. real world type links.
7) There are over 6000 members using the plugin already so they come from all around the globe, different IP’s etc. Very natural looking to Google.
I have found that if you turn it on and have a lot of credits (links being shown for other people on an active site) you can generate TOO many links and they ar eignored or perhaps the page is penalized as it looks fake to google.
9) I had several pages on a new site get ranked high initially then drop off the ranking after quickly building >1000 links in a few days.
10) So I try to limit the links by turning the plugin on and off OR by adding a lot of pages I want links built on. That way it slowly builds the links across all pages

2. The Clickbum SEO engine By Scott Blanchard and

OK so how did the DataFeedr plugin work and how hard is it etc?

OK so using the Datafeedr WordPress Store Plugin- how long did it take how much did it cost?

1. I paid $27 for it. This is a steal. This is the best software I have used for a WordPress blog yet. And I own several packages that go for up to $200!
2. It took me 10 minutes to download and install the plugin.
3. It took me about 20 minutes to set up a commission junction account and find some vendors with products that I wanted to put in my store (they have dozens and dozens of major markets like commission junction and thousands of vendors I believe and millions of products.
4. It took me about an hour to figure out how to set up a store in the WordPress store plugin automated factory tool and to start adding products.
5. Since then I spent about an hour or two refining it.
6. And now its done!

How to set up WordPress – OK lets get Started:

1) How to Set Up WordPress -The WordPress Admin Dashboard overview When you log into your website (see the beginners guide if you don’t know how to) you are in the WordPress Main Navigation Menu. Some people call it the admin panel but in reality it is the Main Navigation menu. It is the control center for your Blog! If you look down the left side of your wordpress blog you will see “Tabs” that let you control the basic settings of your site. These include the following:

The WordPress Dashboard- this has a page of basic statistics about your website like number of posts, most recent posts, most recent comments etc. Posts Tab - This is where you actually add new posts, edit existing posts, search your posts etc

Media Tab - this is the library of pictures, charts, graphs – a library of anything that you have uploaded to include in your posts.

Links Tab - This are links to other sites or places of interest. you often will here people talk about exchanging links (swo that your site points to a page of their site and a page of their site points to yours. his is often done to help each others site (or specific page) get noticed by the search engines. This is where you add such links.

Pages Tab - In WordPress yuou can have static pages that don’t change. This is where you set up those pages. Examples of these might include an “about” page where you tell about yourself and your blog. Or a “Splash” Page where you advertise something for sale or deliver an important message.

Comments Tab - This is like the Posts tab except it is where you monitor comments that people have made about articles on your blog. You can approve them, trash them, mark them as spam, comment on them yourself etc.

Appearance Tab- This has 2 MAJOR wordpress Functions:

• 1) It  is where you actually Select and install wordpress Themes or edit them. Don’t try to edit a wordpress Theme if you are just starting out. But feel free to go to the Add themes and search for Themes for your blog. We will talk more about this later.
• 2) This is also where you select and use the “widgets” (WordPress widgets are what lets you manipulate what appears in the side panels and sometimes headers and footers of your blog.). Different Themes may have more or less widgets and different widgets. We will discuss them later.

Plugins Tab - This is another MAJOR wordpress Feature (See our How to WordPress Plugins article for more information on this). Basically Plugins are functions that automatically Plug IN to your wordpress blog and lets your blog do new things.  This is where you can add, install, activate, edeactivate and delete plugins for your wordpress Theme.Like adding the “Google XML Sitemaps” plugin to automatically create an XML sitemap for your blog, update it every time you make a change AND notify Google, Bing and Yahoo so they know about it! All of that from a few keystrokes to install the right plugin!

Users Tab – Allows you to set up users and your own user profile

Tools Tab-  this contains  5 major WordPress sub functions:

• Tools – which has 2 main tools. A wordpress speed up tool and a “Press This” Tool that is real handy and lets you grab pieces of web pages for inclusion on your website.
• Import – Whew – this is a complex one.  For people just starting out we are not going to go over this one. you can click on the Import link and read all the different funtions it has (like importing parts of other blogs, rss feeds, etc).
• Export – This is an amazingly powerful wordpress tool that will basically let you save your blog to your PC and then import it to another blog!
• Upgrade – This is where you can go to upgrade your version of wordpres sto the latest version AND upgrade plugins that you are using to the latest version
• Others – Other tools may exist if you have added plugins that are tools – like cloaked links (to hide your links).

Settings Tab – This is where you set up the basic information about your blog and how your blog will operate. The “Stock” out of the box settings usually include the following:

• General _- Your blog title, description, URl, date
• Writing – Set up the size of your post editing box here (Make it at least 20 lines) as well as allowing you to define how to do posts by email, and Update services – these are services to update when you post something and then they automatically update other directories or services on the web. You should include the following wordpress update services:

• Reading – is where you define how many posts per page and if you want to have a static page for your main page or blog page.
• Discussion – is where you set up how comments and discussions occur on your blog. These settings include things like if a comment is automatically posted or if you have to moderate it (review it) before it is posted live on the web site.
• Media – is where you define default sizes for media (pictures) Not important for the beginner as you can do this on the fly when you insert pictures into your media library or posts.
• Privacy – Not important to most people just defines if you want search engines to not be able to see your blog.
• Permalinks – is where you define the “structure” of your post urls. Click on the tab to see what I mean.
• Miscellaneous – Not important for most people. Mostly defines where your file uploads are stored on your server.

2) How to Set up users (including yourself!)

1. When you first set up your blog the only user will be the Admin (You!).
2. click on the Users tab and you will see the users. To change your settings just move the mouse over the Admin name and the edit word will appear below it.
3. Click on the edit word to edit the Admin User Setting.
4. You can fill out as much or as little as you want including your Profile and Personal information (I advise against this especially addresses or any other key info).
5. To add a new User click on “Add New” in the Users tab or the Users edit screen.
6. You can add as much or as little information as you want (just like you did for the Admin user).
7. You can use this to give other people access to the site or even to post comments as someone other then the Admin.

3) Selecting and installing a WordPress Theme

1) Over 1000  free WP Themes are all available for download from within your wordpress main navigation menu by following the steps outlined below. If you want to buy a professionally designed theme for better looks and flexibility then check out some of the professionally designed (but they cost you money) themes from WooThemes. Really nice.

2) Click on the  Appearance tab (about 6 tabs down the left column) and  then Click on Themes.

3) This brings up the Themes management console within your admin panel.

4) now just click on the round “Add” button.

5) This will bring up a search screen that you can enter the Theme name, or search by selecting attributes like colors or by selecting a tag (a term that identifies the Theme like “Magazine Theme” or “SEO Optimized”  and then click on the “Search”  button.

6) This will pull up any Themes with the name  or that meets the criteria you entered.

7) You can then just click on “Install” to install the Theme!

Don’t worry, you can always go back to your old Theme by installing it and trying again!

4) Setting up information about your site

1) click on the Settings Tab – This is where you set up the basic information about your blog and how your blog will operate.

2) click on the General  Tab within the settings tab.

3) Enter Your blog title, description, URl, date. NOTE: that if you have not done any keyword research for your Blogs Niche then now is the time to do it. The Blog Title and description (and the Title and description of each blog article that you write) are important Search Engine Optimization fields that should have the primary keywords that you want your blog, and its individual article pages, to rank well for. If you do not know what I am talking about Click on this link and read this article on Keyword research.

4) DON’T FORGET to click Save Changes!

5) Setting up basic info about writing (posts etc)  

1) click on the Settings Tab

2) click on the writing tab from under the setting tab: 

3)  Set up the size of your post editing box here (Make it at least 20 lines)

4) Decide on a default post category and enter it. See the “Adding Posts” section below for how to add post categories and what they are used for. They are important!

5) Skip the posts by email stuff unless you really think yo will use it.

6)   Update services – these are services to update when you post something and then they automatically update other directories or services on the web. Cut and paste the ones I listed above into the box for update services. DON’T FORGET to click Save Changes!

What are WordPress categories and why you need them

1) Categories are a way of grouping related blog posts together. If you look at the heading of this website you will see that there are tabs going from left to right across the page. These are groups of blog subjects that people can click on to read articles about that subject.

2) Short but keyword rich categories are good because it helps the search engines help you.

3) To set up a category click on the Posts tab

4) Then click on the categories tab under the Posts tab

5) fill out the self explanitory fields for the Category Name, Description etc of the category that yo want to add.

6) Click Add Category to save the category.

7) You can always go back and add, modify or delete categories later on.

9) Adding new posts (Writing articles – BLOGGING – FINALLY!)

1) Click on the Posts Tab to see all the posts on your blog in the order they were entered in

2) Click on the “Add New” tab under the posts tab to add a new posts.

3) Enter a heading for the post A Title. It should be descriptive, 60-80 characters and contain the main key words for yor article towards the front of the title. DO NOT try to stuff the title full of a hundred key words in an attempt to fool or attract the search engines. It won’t fool them and no one will bother to click on the article if the title that comes up in google search results makes no sense.

4) Now click in the Main text box and start typing your blog article! The text box is like a word processing package like notepad or microsoft word. You can go to the Plugins and search for Deans  CK Editor if you  want more editing features (like color highlighting text etc) BUT WARNING I find most of the advanced editors to be VERY slow (OK it turns out that it is the Keyword Statistics plugin combined with the FCK Editor that is slow).

5) Your article should be written for humans to read easily but with enough keywords to make sure that the search engines notice it for your key words. How many is enough or too many? That is a subject of some debate but if it sounds difficult or unnatural to read or overly repetitive then it has too many of the same keywords, If it has way to many the search engines will consider ti trash and ignore it. On the other hand if it has so few that it has no central subject then you have either written an article about nothing or not taken the time to research what keywords people search on when they want to read an article like yours! 6) Once you have written the article go to the right hand panel and select a category for it to be grouped under,. 7) if you have included the keyword statistics plugin (if you haven’t you will want too)  then you will want to check the keywords, title and description that it is using for your article. If yo want to change them you have to un-check the automatic box below each one in the Keyword Statistics section.

At any time you can click on save draft in the upper right hand side of the page to save where you are.

9) Clicking Update will update what you have done to the web.

10) Clicking on Preview will pop open a window and show what your post looks like so far.

11) If you forget to save it WordPress does a pretty good job of saving the latest version. When you go to posts and click edit yo should see your post. Clicking on it will open it to edit. If there was a saved version it will say so in the heading area above the post.

• Adding pictures to your posts

1. Click on the Settings Tab
2. Click on the Reading Tab - is where you define how many posts per page and if you want to have a static page for your main page or blog page. A static page for your main page is really a good idea If you want to make sure everybody who comes to your site see’s whats on that one page. for example if yor blog is a political blog that might be where you place your main political agenda. But how to do that is beyond this beginners intro. We will put a article in the “WordPress How To ” category for setting up a splash page (thats what a lot of people call it) for your main page.
3. Discussion – is where you set up how comments and discussions occur on your blog. These settings include things like if a comment is automatically posted or if you have to moderate it (review it) before it is posted live on the web site.

Google SEO and the H1, Title and Description meta tags

1) The Title Meta Tag and SEO and Search engine results:

You must create unique, accurate page titles for each page of your blog just as you would have unique keywords and content.. The Title Meta Tags purpose is to tell both readers and search engines what the topic of a particular page is. The Title Meta tag should be placed within the header tag of the HTML document. Ideally you should create a unique title that reflects the contents of the article.

Good practices for page title meta tags

• Accurately describe the page’s content – Choose a title that effectively communicates the topic of the page’s content.

Don’t:

• Use Title Meta Tags that have nothing to do with the page just to fool the search engines
• Use meaningless or default titles like “an Article” or my blog entry 7”

Be sure to Create unique Title Meta tags for each page – Each of your pages should ideally have a unique title meta tag, which helps Google know how the page is distinct from the others on your site.

Avoid using a single title meta tag across all of your site’s pages or a large group of pages

Use brief, but descriptive titles – Titles can be both short and informative. If the title is too long, Google will show only a portion of it in the search result

Don’t:

• Use extremely lengthy titles that are unhelpful to users
• Stuff unneeded keywords in your title meta tags. It won’t help your search rankings and it will keep users from clicking on your article in the search engine results page (because they won’t know what the article is about and will skip it).

2) Google SEO and the H1, Title and Description meta tags – Make use of the “description” meta tag

A page’s description meta tag gives Google and other search engines a summary of what the page is about. Where as a page’s title may be a few words or a phrase, a page’s description meta tag might be a sentence or two or a short paragraph. Google Webmaster Tools provides a handy content analysis section that’ll tell you about any description meta tags that are either too short, long, or duplicated too many times (the same information is also shown for the Title Meta tags). Like the Title Meta tag, the description meta tag is placed within the <head> tag of your HTML document of  your site.

Good practices for description meta tags

Accurately summarize the page’s content – Write a description that would both inform and interest users if they saw your description meta tag as a snippet in a search result.

Don’t:

• Be vague or misleading. The Description Meta Tag must describe the pages content
• Use generic descriptions that lack detail. Tell the reader what the subject is about
• Try to be clever and fill the description meta tag with keywords. It is meant to be read by human
• Try to fit the entire article into the description meta tag

DO use unique descriptions for each page – Having a different description meta tag for each page helps both users and Google, especially in searches where users may bring up multiple pages on your domain (e.g. searches using the site: operator). If your site has thousands or even millions of pages, hand-crafting description meta tags probably isn’t feasible. In this case, you could automatically generate description meta tags based on each page’s content.

Don’t

• Use  Description or Title meta tags across multiple pages.

3) Google SEO and the H1, Title and Description meta tags – Use heading tags (H1 – H6 tags) appropriately

Heading tags (not to be confused with the <head> HTML tag or HTTP headers) are used to present structure on the page to users. There are six sizes of heading tags, beginning with H1 tag, the most important, and ending with H6 header tag, the least important

Since heading tags typically make text contained in them larger than normal text on the page, this is a visual cue to users that this text is important and could help them understand something about the type of content underneath the heading text. Multiple heading sizes used in order create a hierarchical structure for your content, making it easier for users to navigate through your document

• Imagine you’re writing an outline – Similar to writing an outline for a large paper, put some thought into what the main points and sub-points of the content on the page will be and decide where to use heading tags appropriately

Don’t

• Go crazy with the H1 Meta Tag thinking it will make Google rank your page higher. The H1 – H6 Meta tags should guide your reader thru the structure of your article. If you do this correctly it will guide Google thru it as well and your page may rank higher for what it is about. This would translate into better traffic for your site.

• Use H1 – H6 heading tags where other tags like <em> and <strong> may be more appropriate

• Be inconsistent  by jumping from one header tag size to another all over the place. Readability and structure that makes sense is the goal

DO Use headings sparingly across the page – Use heading tags where it makes sense. Too

many heading tags on a page can create that screaming affect and readers quickly ignore it or tire of it and leave.  For those readers who stay it can make it hard for users to scan the content and determine where one topic ends and another begins.

Finally, Don’t put an entire paragraph in a  heading tag and don’t use the heading tags and color for styling. Use the fonts, sizes and color for that.

Do these things and your readers, and Google will be able to understand your article better and you should rank higher and have users who stick around longer.

1. Editor Extender – OK this is really cool WP TinyMCE extender .

• This Extends WP Tinymce – It gives you Emoticons, a working preview in a pop up (how many times have you published a post to find that things got spaced wrong or something and had to go back in and fix it and repost? This is a one click solution to that)Search and replace, etc.
• The WP TinyMCE plugin allows you to turn on most of the functionality that you would find at http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/example_full.php with out having to dig into the code to turn things on and off. SO it extends WP Tinymce without coding.
• Simply go to your WordPress Admin area, click on Settings and then click on Editor Extender. On the Editor Extender options page you will have checkboxes for turning on and off WP TinyMCE options as you see fit, just check it to turn and option on; uncheck it to turn it off. Being sure to save changes after you make a change.

2. ]\CKEditor for WordPress –

• This is the WP Tinymce extender that I use – This gives you more control over the Font type and size as well as highlighting and text colors and a better spellchecker. It has everything I need. This WP TinyMCE plugin also makes it easier to modify pictures.

Just go to the Plugins tab in the left sidebar of your admin panel, click on Add New, enter “Editor” in the search plugins field and click on Search Plugins. If you are not familiar with html, css or web publishing, here are a few simple commands you should know that will allow you to create simple but interesting articles.

Font style - Highlight your text and use these 4 buttons to make text bold, italic, underlined, or strike-through.

Text Format for size and headings - To make your articles interesting, highlight your text and use this drop-down menu to create a variety of different styles of headings with different attributes. You can use this to quickly make text large, bold, italic and so on.

Edit CSS Style - This displays a pop-up dialog box that allows you to enter CSS style information for the selected text. You can use this to change text size and for a variety of other functions.

Alignment - Highlight your text or select an image and use these buttons to Align text, images or other content left, right, center, and full.

Insert/Edit Image - To insert an image, place the cursor in the desired location and press this button. A pop-up dialog box will appear that lets you enter in the Image URL and other information about how the image will display.

Insert/Edit Link - To insert or edit a link, select the linked text and press this button. A pop-up dialog displays that lets you enter details about the link.

Important note about external links! – It is important to note that any article published on this website that contains links to other websites on the Internet, the links need to open “In a new browser window” or “Target blank” for readers. To make a button or image Click-able to another article or website - To make a button or image click-able to another article or website, you can use a combination of the last three explanations. First insert the image or button into your article where you want it. Then click the image to highlight it. Then click the “Insert/edit link” button in the toolbar and enter the URL of the link and update your article. This will make the image or button click-able to the other article or website!

Unlink - To remove a link, highlight the linked text and press this button.

Insert Embedded Media - To insert embedded media such as flash files (youtube video’s are flash video files), place the cursor at the desired location and press this button. A pop-up dialog will display that allows you to enter the Type, File or URL, and the dimensions of the embedded media. There are two way that you can directly edit the html for your article if you know what you are doing!

Note; This function can also be used to quickly copy an article. You can view the html and copy it for use in a second article that is very similar. This will save a lot of time if you have spent a large amount of time formatting a particular article.

1. Edit HTML Source - If you click this button, a pop-up displays showing the HTML source code for your article and allowing you to edit the HTML source code directly.

2. You can disable the TinyMCE editor completely by going to the User menu for the website and click “Your details”. In the drop-down menu for the editor, select “Editor – No editor” and click save. Now when you edit an article, you will just see the html for the article. You can re-enable the TinyMCE editor again at any stage by changing it back again.

Short explanation for each of the buttons in the TinyMCE editor

TinyMCE Top row

Font style - Make text bold, italic, underlined, or strike-through.

Alignment - Align text, images or other content left, right, center, and full.

Text & Image Styles - Caption and System Pagebreak styles can be set. Highlight the desired text and select the style. This will allow this text to be formatted based on CSS rules.

Text Format - Select predefined formats for Paragraph, Address, Heading1, and so on.

Font Family - Select the desired font.

TinyMCE Second Row

Text List formatting - Unordered List, Ordered list, Out-dent (move left) and Indent (indent right).

Undo/redo - Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Re-do (Ctrl+Y) the formatting you just made to your article.

Insert/Edit Link - To insert or edit a link, select the linked text and press this button. A pop-up dialog displays that lets you enter details about the link.

Unlink - To remove a link, highlight the linked text and press this button.

Insert/edit anchor - Creates a named anchored which can be used as a target to jump to when using a link.

Insert/Edit Image - To insert an image, place the cursor in the desired location and press this button. A pop-up dialog displays that lets you enter in the Image URL and other information about how the image will display.

Cleanup Messy Code - This button allows you to clean up HTML code, perhaps from HTML text that you copied in from another source.

Edit HTML Source - A pop-up displays showing the HTML source code, allowing you to edit the HTML source code.

Find - and Find/Replace.

Insert Date, Time, or Emotions.

Insert Embedded Media - To insert embedded media (such as Flash), place the cursor at the desired location and press this button. A pop-up dialog will display that allows you to enter the Type, File or URL, and other information about the media.

Text direction - Direction Left to Right and Direction Right to Left. These buttons allow you to enter or change the text direction, for example for languages that read right to left.

Insert New Layer - Inserts a new layer of html that floats above the background html.

Layer height - Move layers forward or backward.

Toggle Absolute Position - For working with layered items.

Select Text Color - Select the color of your text. This drops down to give you a choice of colors

TinyMCE Third Row

Insert Horizontal Ruler - Adds a horizontal ruler to your page.

Remove Formatting - Removes formatting from text copied from somewhere else.

Toggle Guidelines/Invisible elements - Toggles the invisible elements of your article.

Subscript, Superscript - For adding scientific notation to your text.

Insert Custom Character - Choose from a selection of custom text characters.

Horizontal Rule - Applies horizontal rule

Tools for inserting and editing tables - Insert New Table, Table Row Properties, Table Cell Properties, Insert Row Before, Insert Row After, Delete Row, Insert Column Before, Insert Column After, Delete Column, Split Merged Table Cells, Merge Table Cells.

Toggle Full Screen Mode - Toggles your article editing window to the full size of your screen

Edit CSS Style - A pop-up dialog box displays that allows you to enter CSS style information for the selected text

I am getting an Adsense click thru rate of DOUBLE my other sites using the Free WP Theme Atahualpa and the FREE Adsense Daemon plugin.

I think this is because Atahualpa has a wide layout so when you put the adsense links in their using the Adsense Daemon (I put them after the second and 8th paragraph. To see this in the website I linked to above just click on one of the articles. The ads to not appear on the main page because it only has shortened versions of each article) The readers read around the ads and its not bunched up or compressed like it would be on a narrow width newspaper type layout. It flows well and they don’t just skip past the annoying ads to get to the test, it becomes part of the page and they pay more attention.

Drawbacks: Atahualpa is meant to be configurable and you have a bazillion different settings. Also they do a crappy job of updating the theme. You have to download the current version from their website and manually update it AND the current version in the wordpress Library is way old/

What you should do instead you should go to the next section on Web Hosting and get a web host like one of the one of the ones we recommend that have wordpress available as part of the hosting package and that let you install wordpress with one click. That is a heck of a lot easier for Someone new to blogging then to try and download software, FTP it to the right directory with everything else involved.

How to Host WordPress – Domain Name Advice: Try to get a domain name that is relavant. meaning that it has to do with your blog theme and market niche. Meaning if you want to blog about the environment  “www.funwithnumbers.com would not make much sense. try to pick a name that is easy to remember.

Also remember that the suffix “.com” or “.net” or “.info” is not really all that important anymore as most of the good “.com” are taken. I DO NOT recommend paying a lot of money for a catchy domain name.

BUT I DO RECOMMEND GETTING AN EXACT MATCH DOMAIN NAME FOR YOUR NICHE!!! If your blog is about fly fishing supplies then try tio get flyfishingsupplies.com or Greatflyfishingsupplies.com. It really helps with getting website traffic do to the SEO benefits.

If you are seeking advice on how to host domains chances are you are new to wordpress and the cost of a high end domain would not be needed yet. The domain name value is over hyped (unless you are a company and it is the name of your company.

The search engines pay more attention to the Title of your page and its contents and keywords. People that search google for a subject will pay more attention to the top ones on the list that is why you must do keyword research and seo optimization) and they will pay the most attention to your Website and web page description!!!

So if your site comes up #5 on google but your description talks about something else other then the search term, people won’t key on the link and they will never go to your site.

How to Make a WordPress Website – How to host WordPress definitions all about Domains, domane names and IP addresses:

Domain -in simple terms it is the neame of your Website like www.microsoft.com. Technically its A name that identifies one or more IP addresses.

IP Addresses are locations of a computer on the world wide web. They are a numeric address like 192.167.7.42. But that does not make sense to humans so they came up with Domain Names to represent them. For example, the domain name microsoft.com represents about a dozen IP addresses.

Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages. For example, in the URL http://www.pcwebopedia.com/index.html, the domain name is pcwebopedia.com.

Domain Tip – The suffix (.com or .net or .gov, etc) is less important then it used to be. I think the domain name is more important then the suffix. If you can get the .com name you want fine. If not .info, .net etc are all fine. Obviously don’t use .gov if you are not governement etc.

How to Make a WordPress Website – How to Install wordpress

PART 1) How to install wordpress on a webhost that is WordPress ready If you used any of the popular webhosts like Namecheap.com or Hostgator they are wordpress ready and how to install wordpress is simple.

1) log in to the ‘CPANEL” of your domain. For exxample if your Website is www.mywebsite.com you would enter the following into your web browser: http://www.mywebsite.com/cpanel And then enter

2) This will pop up a login screen. You must enter the name and password that you selected when setting up your web hosting account. If you don’t know it call or email your webhosting company to get it.

3) After entering your login and password you should be in the cpanel screen. If you scroll down the screen you should see a section that has software services available. It looks like this:

Fantastico is a software service that will automatically install wordpress for you.

4) Click on FANTASTICO and you should get the fantastico screen that looks like this

5) Click on wordpress on the left side of the Fantastico Panel.

It will then bring up  some information about WordPress and any installations of WordPress you may already have. Just click on “New Installations”. See the screen below:

6) The next step in How to install wordpress is to select the domain you are going to install wordpress in, login password etc. See the screen below and we will talk about each field

7) Select the domain you want to install in . I just typed one in as an example. it should show you domains that you have hosted at your Web Host. Leave the directory blank. it will default to the correct directory.

Enter the admin login and password. WRITE THESE DOWN in 2 places ! These are what you will use to login to the admin panel of WordPress to work on your blog later on!!!

9) Fill in the other field (email, description etc and press install.

10) It will come back with a small message verifying that you want to install> Click finish installation. YOU ARE DONE!

PART 2) How to install wordpress by manually downloading it and installing it is next it is a lot harder and longer skip it if you can do the easy install outlined above

1) How to install wordpress- start by Download and unzipping the WordPress package, if you haven’t already.You can download the latest version of WordPress by clicking on this link. The file you are downloading is called latest.zip. you will want to save it in a folder on your PC and then “Unzip” the contents using an unzip utility like winzip.

2) For the second step of How to Install WordPress You will need to Create a database for WordPress on your web server, as well as a “mysql user” id  so that you can access and modify the database.

3) Now go to the folder were you unzipped the Latest version of wordpress. In the file you unzipped Rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php.

4) Open wp-config.php in an editor like notepad (NOT MICROSOFT WORD) and fill in the required database fileds (highlighted in yellow below as an example they are not in yellow in your wp-config file) These are available from your web host: define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘putyourdbnamehere‘); /** MySQL database username */ define(‘DB_USER’, ‘usernamehere‘); /** MySQL database password */ define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘yourpasswordhere‘); /** MySQL hostname */ define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost‘); IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH THIS OR THE INSTALL click on the following link to read more technical details on editing the config file at wordpress.org. 5) Step 5 in How to Install WordPress is to generate and use your secret key password. You will need to install the files onto your server. This is usually done with a programe called “FTP” your webhost will come with one. You can also download filezilla to run on your PC if you need to by clicking on this link

Step 6 You have 2 choices of places to install wordpress: If you want to integrate WordPress into the root of your domain (e.g. http://example.com/), move or upload all contents of the unzipped WordPress directory (but excluding the directory itself) into the root directory of your web server. If you want to have your WordPress installation in its own subdirectory on your web site (e.g. http://example.com/blog/), rename the directory wordpress to the name you’d like the subdirectory to have and move or upload it to your web server. For example if you want the WordPress installation in a subdirectory called “blog”, you should rename the directory called “wordpress” to “blog” and upload it to the root directory of your web server.

7) The final step in How to Install WordPress is to run the wordpress installation script You Run the WordPress installation script by entering the following install command in your web browser. (we will use the Website domain of www.mywebsite.com as an example).

1. If you installed WordPress in the root directory, enter the following in your browser: http://mywebsite.com/wp-admin/install.php
2. If you installed WordPress in its own subdirectory called blog, for example, you enter: http://nywebsite.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php

This will automatically install wordpress! And that is how to install wordpress.

You now should be able to log into your wordpress admin panel and start working on your blog by entering the following into your browser:

http://www.mywebsite.com/wp-admin This will bring up the login screen where you must enter your admin user name and password.

Detailed WordPress How To Login

Once you have WordPress installed on a host computer (If you do not know what this means you need to read our article  “WordPress How to, How to WP – The Basics”) Logging in is easy.

1) Lets assume your blog or Website is called www.mywebsite.com

2) To login to your wordpress software you need to go to the wp-admin panel> so enter this into your web browser where you would normally just enter www.mywebsite.com to bring up your Website: Http://www.mywebsite.com/wp-admin NOTE: if you are using a free website host your Website “name” may look different. Maybe like: http://www.my-free-Website-host company.mywebsite.com Whatever they told you it was, enter it like that with “/wp-admin” after the .com.

3) After you hit enter you should get the Wp admin login screen that looks like this:

4) If you do not get this screen make sure you typed in your Website domain name correctly, put the forward slash after the “.com” and then the “wp-admin”. Again it should have been entered as: www.mywebsite.com/wp-admin where “mywebsite” is the name of your Website. If it still does not come back with the admin login screen either your web host is down, You did not install wordpress correctly, you got the spelling wrong, etc. GO TO THE HOW TO LOGIN WORDPRESS TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE

5) Enter the user name and password you selected for admin when setting up your wordpress installation.

6) Press Enter Your WordPress Admin Panel dashboard for your Website should now be up.

OK lets get Started:

1) How to Set Up WordPress -The WordPress Admin Dashboard overview When you log into your Website (see the begginers guide if you don’t know how to) you are in the WordPress Main Navigation Menu. Some people call it the admin panel but in reality it is the Main Navigation menu. It is the control center for your Blog! If you look down the left side of your wordpress blog you will see “Tabs” that let you control the basic settings of your site. These include the following:

The WordPress Dashboard- this has a page of basic statistics about your Website like number of posts, most recent posts, most recent coments etc.

Posts Tab – This is where you actually add new posts, edit existing posts, search your posts etc

Media Tab – this is the library of pictures, charts, graphs – a library of anything that you have uploaded to include in your posts.

Links Tab – This are links to other sites or places of interest. you often will here people talk about exchanging links (swo that your site points to a page of their site and a page of their site points to yours. his is often done to help eachothers site (or specific page) get noticed by the search engines. This is where you add such links.

Pages Tab – In WordPress yuou can have static pages that don’t change. This is where you set up those pages. Examples of these might include an “about” page where you tell about yourself and your blog. Or a “Splash” Page where you advertise something for sale or deliver an important message.

Comments Tab – This is like the Posts tab except it is ehere you monito commetns that people have made about articles on your blog. You can approve them, trash them, mark them as spma, comment on them yourself etc.

Appearance Tab- This has 2 MAJOR wordpress Functions:

• 1) It  is where you actually Select and install wordpress Themes or edit them. Don’t try to edit a wordpress Theme if you are just starting out. But feel free to go to the Add themes and search for Themes for your blog. We will talk more about this later.
• 2) This is also where you select and use the “widgets” (WordPress widgets are what lets you manipulate what appears in the side panels and sometimes headers and footersof your blog.). Different Themes may have more or less widgets and different widgets. We will discuss them later.

Plugins Tab – This is another MAJOR wordpress Feature (See our How to WordPress Plugins article for more information on this). Basically Plugins are functionjs that automatically Plug IN to your wordpress blog and lets your blog do new things.  This is where you can add, install, activate, edeactivate and delete plugins for your wordpress Theme.Like adding the “Google XML Sitemaps” plugin to automatically create an XML sitemap for your blog, update it everytime you make a change AND notify Google, Bing and Yahoo so they know about it! All of that from a few keystrokes to install the right plugin!

Users Tab – Allows you to set up users and your own user profile

Tools Tab-  this contains  5 major WordPress sub functions:

• Tools – which has 2 main tools. A wordpress speed up tool and a “Press This” Tool that is real handy and lets you grab pieces of web pages for inclusion on your Website.
• Import – Whew – this is a complex one.  For people just starting out we are not going to go over this one. you can click on the Import link and read all the different funtions it has (like importing parts of other blogs, rss feeds, etc).
• Export – This is an amazingly powerfull wordpress tool that will basically let you save your blog to your PC and then import it to another blog!
• Upgrade – This is where you can go to upgrade your version of wordpres sto the latest version AND upgrade plugins that you are using to the latest version
• Others – Other tools may exist if you have added plugins that are tools – like cloaked links (to hide your links).

Settings Tab – This is where you set up the basic information about your blog and how your blog will operate. The “Stock” out of the box settings usually include the following:

• General _- Your blog title, description, URl, date
• Writing – Set up the size of your post editing box here (Make it at least 20 lines) as well as allowing you to define how to do posts by email, and Update services – these are services to update when you post something and then they automatically update other direcories or services on the web. You should include the following wordpress update services:

• Reading – is where you define how many posts per page and if you want to have a static page for your main page or blog page.
• Discussion – is where you set up how comments and discussions occur on your blog. These settings include things like if a comment is automatically posted or if you have to moderate it (review it) before it is posted live on the web site.
• Media – is where you define default sizes for media (pictures) Not important for the begginer as you can do this on the flyu when you insert pictures into your media library or posts.
• Privacy – Not important to most people just defines if you want search engines to not be able to see your blog.
• Permalinks – is where you define the “structure” of your post urls. Click on the tab to see what I mean.
• Miscellaneous – Not important for most people. Mostly defines where your file uploads are stored on your server.

2) How to Set up users (including yourself!)

1. When you first set up your blog the only user will be the Admin (You!).
2. click on the Users tab and you will see the users. To change your settings just move the mouse over the Admin name and the edit word will appear below it.
3. Click on the edit word to edit the Admin User Setting.
4. You can fill out as much or as little as you want including your Profile and Personal information (I advise against this especially addresses or any other key info).
5. To add a new User click on “Add New” in the Users tab or the Users edit screen.
6. You can add as much or as little information as you want (just like you did for the Admin user).
7. You can use this to give other people access to the site or even to post comments as someone other then the Admin.

3) Selecting and installing a WordPress Theme

1) Over 1000  free WP Themes are all available for download from within your wordpress main navigation menu by folowing the steps outlined below. 2) Click on the  Appearance tab (about 6 tabs down the left column) and  then Click on Themes.

3) This brings up the Themes management console within your admin panel.

4) now just click on the round “Add” button.

5) This will bring up a search screen that you can enter the Theme name, or search by selecting attributes like colors or by selecting a tag (a term that identifies the Theme like “Magazine Theme” or “SEO Optimized”  and then click on the “Search”  button.

6) This will pull up any Themes with the name  or that meets the criteria you entered.

7) You can then just click on “Install” to install the Theme!

Don’t worry, you can always go back to your old Theme by installing it and trying again!

Getting Started: Setting up information about your site in your new wordpress software

1) click on the Settings Tab – This is where you set up the basic information about your blog and how your blog will operate.

2) click on the General  Tab within the settings tab.

3) Enter Your blog title, description, URl, date. NOTE: that if you have not done any keyword research for your Blogs Niche then now is the time to do it. The Blog Title and desccription (and the Title and decription of each blog article that you write) are important Search Engine Optimization fields that should have the primary keywords that you want your blog, and its individual articvle pages, to rank well for.

4) DON’T FORGET to click Save Changes! If you do not know what I am talking about Click on this link and read this article on Keyword research. If you do understand the importance of this and want to have an edge on your competitors and to rank highly in the SERPS (The search engine result pages – the results that come up when people type something in the search box for google (for example) and hit enter)

Setting up basic info about writing (posts etc)

1) click on the Settings Tab

2) click on the writing tab from under the setting tab:

3) Set up the size of your post editing box here (Make it at least 20 lines)

4) Decide on a default post category and enter it. See the “Adding Posts” section below for how to add post categories and what they are used for. They are important!

5) Skip the posts by email stuff unless you really think you will use it.

6)   Update services – these are services to update when you post something and then they automatically update other direcories or services on the web. Cut and paste the ones I listed above into the box for update services. DON’T FORGET to click Save Changes!

Setting up basic information about reading and comments

1. Click on the Settings Tab
2. Click on the Reading Tab - is where you define how many posts per page and if you want to have a static page for your main page or blog page. A static page for your main page is really a good idea If you want to make sure everybody who comes to your site see’s whats on that one page. for example if your blog is a political blog that might be where you place your main poklitical agenda. But how to do that is beyond this begginers intro. We will put a article in the “WordPress How To ” category for setting up a splash page (thats what a lot of people call it) for your main page.
3. Discussion – is where you set up how comments and discussions occur on your blog. These settings include things like if a comment is automatically posted or if you have to moderate it (review it) before it is posted live on the web site.

What are WordPress categories and why you need them

1) Categories are a way of grouping related blog posts together. If you look at the heading of this Website you will see that there are tabs going from left to right across the page. These are groups of blog subjects that people can click on to read articles about that subject.

2) Short but keyword rich categories are good because it helps the search engines help you.

3) To set up a category click on the Posts tab

4) Then click on the categories tab under the Posts tab

5) fill out the self explanetory fields for the Category Name, Description etc of the category that you want to add.

6) Click Add Category to save the category.

7) You can always go back and add, modify or delete categories later on.

9) Adding new posts (Writing articles – BLOGGING – FINALLY!)

1) Click on the Posts Tab to see all the posts on your blog in the order they were entered in

2) Click on the “Add New” tab under the posts tab to add a new posts.

3) Enter a heading for the post A Title. It should be descriptive, 60-80 characters and contain the main key words for your article towards the front of the title. DO NOT try to stuff the title full of a hundred key words in an attempt to fool or attract the search engines. It won’t fool them and no one will bother to click on the article if the title that comes up in Google search results makes no sense.

4) Now click in the Main text box and start typing your blog article! The text box is like a word processing package like notepad orMmicrosoft word. You Website to the Plugins and search for Deans  CK Editor if you  want more editing features (like color highlighting text etc) BUT WARNING I find most of the advanced editors to be VERY slow!

5) Your article should be written for humans to read easily but with enough keywords to make sure that the search engines notice it for your key words. How many is enough or too many? That is a subject of some debate but if it sounds difficult or unnatural to read or overly repetitive then it has too many of the same keywords, If it has way to many the search engines will consider ti trash and ignore it. On the other hand if it has so few that it has no central subject then you have either written an article about nothing or not taken the time to research what keywords people search on when they want to read an article like yours!

6) Once you have written the article go to the right hand panel and select a category for it to be grouped under,.

7) if you have included the keyword statistics plugin (if you haven’t you will want too)  then you will want to check the keywords, title and description that it is using for your article. If you want to change them you have to un-check the automatic box below each one in the Keyword Statistics section.

At any time you can click on save draft in the upper right hand side of the page to save where you are.

9) Clicking Update will update what you have done to the web.

10) Clicking on Preview will pop open a window and show what your post looks like so far.

11) If you forget to save it WordPress does a pretty good job of saving the latest version. When you go to posts and click edit you should see your post. Clicking on it will open it to edit. If there was a saved version it will say so in the heading area above the post
